In Gilliam's first six starts, the Steelers posted a 4-1-1 record, but Pittsburgh head coach Chuck Noll restored Bradshaw at quarterback the rest of the way. The Steelers finished with a 10-3-1 regular-season record and went on to capture their first Super Bowl title. Gilliam's problems with drug abuse eventually sent him on a downward spiral and derailed his NFL career.
