Any player in any position can be made the captain.
As an assistant coach of girls volleyball teams, when looking for a captain I look for the player who has the following qualities:
every single position on a volleyball court serves. there is no specific serving position
The captain's duties is to make sure the team does have any jewelry on while playing and there should be at least one captain on the court at times.

On a normal volleyball court: 6 players beach volleyball: 2 players
up to 2 per game. when actually on the court, only 1 can be floor captain.
In Volleyball, you typically rotate clockwise- so if you were in the serving position (back right), the you'd move to the center back position. Where you stand exactly depends on the system of court placement you're running.
there are six positions on the court. usually teams have 8-12 players, but only six can play at one time.
The base line is the end line on both sides of the court.
Position 1 is considered "right back" (If you're standing at the net looking at the endline, the left third of the court behind the ten foot line).
There is hard court volleyball, which is played on a wooden floor and there is beach volleyball, which is played in the sand (There is also indoor beach volleyball, but it is much smaller than beach and hard court)
