Since the Athletics moved to Oakland, they have played in 6 World Series (1972, 1973, 1974, 1988, 1989, 1990). The only Athletics player to have hit three or more home runs in any of those six World Series was catcher Gene Tenace who hit 4 in the 1972 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds.
No pitcher has ever hit two home runs in one World Series. Only two pitcher, Bob Gibson and Dave McNally have hit two homes runs in World Series play, but they did it in separate Series.
Only four players have had three-homer games in World Series competition -- Babe Ruth (who did it twice), Reggie Jackson, Albert Pujols and Pablo Sandoval.

That has been done once before, in the 1969 World Series when Don Buford of the Baltimore Orioles led off the Series with a home run off of Tom Seaver of the New York Mets. There have been many players to hit a home run in the first game of the World Series, the first being Jimmy Sebring of the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1903 World Series. But Pedroia and Buford are the only two players that hit home runs in the first at bat of a World Series.
