The antenna in volleyball is to determine if the ball is in or out. If a team makes a play from outside of the court, the ball must travel in between the two antennas to be a legal play. Line judges are responsible for calling any balls that aren't inside of the antennas. Another thing, if the ball hits the antenna, it is called out.
