Pine tar from his swing and resting his bat there.
I believe it has nothing to do with him resting his bat on his shoulder. A batter does not rest his bat on his FRONT shoulder. I believe, although I have nothing to confirm this, that Matt Kemp himself is putting the dirt on the uniform of his left shoulder. This is his surgically repaired shoulder and he might have developed a ritual or a superstition about it...Just a thought
Dirt off Your Shoulder was created on 2004-03-02.
Jay Z had one titled "Dirt off your shoulder" that was a hit back in the mid 2000's. Lil' Wayne released a mixtape called The Prefix on which he has his version of the song.

A:.................
I'd say Empire State Of Mind or Ni**as in Paris, they are the most mainstream. But also D.O.A, 99 Problems, and Dirt off your shoulder are popular
