There is no rule allowing or disallowing the act, therefore it is legal. As a matter of fact, jumping over the catcher might be in compliance with rules requiring runners to avoid contact with a defensive player.
*Some leagues have "Must Slide" rules at home to eliminate colisions, so be familiar with your local leagues
Little League Rule 1.12 - A catcher must wear a catcher's mitt(not a first basemans mitt or a fielders glove) any shape, size or weight consistent with protecting the hand.
For little league they are usually 46-60 meaning 46 ft from pitcher to catcher and 60 ft from the bases
Phoebe in catcher is Holden's little sis.
Little League Baseball Field measurements from the Pitcher's Rubber to Home Plate is 46 feet.
Catcher, pitcher, outfield, and first base are the only position a lefty will play at the major league level.
The interference should have been enforced when called.
The only position that a distracting item can be removed by the umpire, is the pitcher. You could have a lime green glove as a catcher!!!
The quote is attributed to Yogi Berra, Yankees catcher (1947-1963)
yes but you can not maul over the catcher In the 1979 Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA., a player jumped over the catcher. Grosse Pointe Woods-Shores, MI was playing Campbell, CA. in a semi-final game. Grosse Pointe centerfielder Mike Walkowiak scampered home as the throw came in. The throw beat Walkowiak and the Campbell catcher crouched low to make the inevitable out. Just then, Walkowiak hurdled high over the catcher and both feet landed on home plate without even coming close to the catcher. It was the go ahead run at the time, putting Grosse Pointe up 5-4. Mike's ingenuity wasn't enough, however, as Campbell went on to win the game 8-5.
Probably the Pecole little league rookie league championship game, either that or the little league world series championship game in williamsport :)
No. There is no 'uncaught third strike' rule in Little League. A base runner can advance if a third strike is not caught but the batter may not reach first base due to an uncaught third strike.Majors and minors can't, but juniors and seniors can.
The little boy in "The Catcher in the Rye" was humming the song "If a body catch a body coming through the rye," which inspired the title of the novel.
