It doesn't go by base-for force plays, you only have to touch the base. You tag the player on a steal, or when nobody is behind the player.

The only base that can be over run without fear of being tagged out in softball like in Baseball is 1st base. But also of course you can over run home base.

Can all bases be overran in a softball game?

No, you can only overrun first base and home. Also, when overrunning first base, you must run in a straight line or you can be tagged out. If you make an "attempt" to go to second, you can be tagged out. Depending on the umpire, you must turn away from second to go back to the base.

How do you get points in a softball game?

In softball, points are referred to as runs. To get a run, a batter must successfully make it the whole way around the bases back to home plate. This can be accomplished by hitting a homerun, stealing bases, or having other batters hit the ball while you are on a base.

When must a base runner be tagged in softball?

When there isn't a runner behind them forcing them to run. For example, if a runner is on 2nd base but there is no one on 1st base, the runner must be tagged on their way to 3rd in order to get them out. However, if there IS a runner on 1st, the 3rd baseman can simply touch the base because it is a force out.

You can tag a runner anytime but it's most important to tag a runner when it's not a force out play. When a baserunner runs to the next base without a runner behind him he must be tagged out before reaching base.

Not necessarily, most softball recruiting is done through travel/summer teams. Also, many softball programs are not that good and could be considered a waste of time.

What is baseball and softball?

Baseball and softball are typically the same except baseball is usually played by boys, and softball is typically played with girls. The object of the game is to get as many points as possible. To get a point you must run around the bases once without being called out. You get out if someone catches or tags you with a ball.

How do you play softball?

Softball is played on a diamond shaped field, generally known as a baseball diamond. The ball is bigger than the one used in baseball, but softball uses the same positions: catcher, pitcher, 1st basemen, 2nd basemen, 3rd basemen, short stop, and 3 outfielders (center, left, and right). The catcher wears a lot of protection on their knees (legs), chest , and face, and wears a catcher's mitt. When the ball is pitched, the player up to bat hits the ball with the bat, runs to 1st base, but depending on the hit, may attempt to get to 2nd, 3rd, or home. If the ball is caught by a player on the opposing team before touching the ground, then the batter is out. A player is also out if a member of the opposing team steps on the base, which a player is running to, before that player gets there. In this case, the member of the opposing team must have the ball in his/her hand. However, if it is not a force (when a player must go to the next base because the batter behind them must take their base) then a player must be tagged (touched by the ball) by a player from the opposing team in order for the player to be considered out. Sliding (throwing one's body at the base, as opposed to just running to it) is only used for when tagging is necessary to get that player out. There are usually 7 innings (both teams at bat before 3 outs counts as 1 inning) with nine players on the field at once.
