Construction of "Cubs Park" (later - in 1926 - to be known as Wrigley Field), at 1060 West Addison Street in Chicago IL began in 1914.
The FIRST Wrigley Field was in Los Angeles CA, and home to the Los Angeles Angels of the Pacific Coast (minor) League. It was built in 1925. A lot of famous baseball movies were filmed there, because of its close proximity to Hollywood. TV's Home Run Derby was also filmed there.
They were originally named "The Chicago White Stockings" in the late 19th century, and their name changed from "White Stockings" to "Colts," to "Orphans" to eventually, "Cubs." The name was chosen from a naming contest in the newspaper. Copy this into your web browser: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_baseball_team_nicknames#Chicago_Cubs (Not coincidentally, the Chicago Bears, who hosted their games at Wrigley Field, named their team after the Cubs and were originally the "Chicago Staleys.")

They are named after their major league affiliate, the Chicago Cubs. Also, the Chicago Cubs have a very large amount of support that comes from the state of Iowa.
The team name was generally recognized to be "Cubs" starting in 1890.

I can find no one with the surname of Hicks that has played for the Chicago Cubs. Maybe the name is spelled differently?
Yes ... the Cubs began play in 1870 as the White Stockings. They changed their name to the Colts in 1890, Orphans in 1898, and Cubs in 1903.
No.Wrigley Field opened in 1914 as home of the Chicago Chi-Feds of the short lived Federal League. Charles Weeghman, owner and founder of the team, had the park built and it opened with the name Weeghman Park. When the Federal League folded after the 1915 season, Weeghman joined forces with William Wrigley Jr. and bought the Cubs and moved their home games to Weeghman Park from West Side Grounds where they had played since 1893.The park was called Weeghman Park until 1920 when it was renamed Cubs Park. It was renamed Wrigley Field, by Cubs owner Wrigley, for the 1926 season.
