Dating back to September 1853, when the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) was granted a new site for a ground in the Government Paddock, the MCG has been the scene of many important events, as well as many 'firsts' in Australian sporting history. Millions of fans pass through the gates every year to attend sporting and entertainment events. The MCG was included in the National Heritage List on 26 December 2005.
