What is the ideal strategy to use in volleyball?

A perfect play in volleyball would be a bump to the setter and a set from the setter to the hitter who would spike it over the net. Not sure what the proper term is, but if you were doing this back and forth it is called peppering, but i don't n=know why it's called that.
