In 1895, a man named William G. Morgan made a game called mintonette, also known as, its modern name, volleyball. it was made to be a gentle alternative to Basketball for the older people in his YMCA group. Now volleyball is anything but gentle.

The two ways that I can think of are, now they have rally scoring which means that there is a point awarded on every play. There has also been a special player added which is the libero.
