i supporter is someone who supports the team and checks on the scores but if the match is showing on the television, they won't go out of their way to watch it.

a fan is someone who is fanatical and will do anything and everything to watch their team, cancel other plans, be there and always be in the knowledge of what's going on, transfers, injuries, fixtures, results, you name it.

A fan follows and supports a particular team. A spectator is there to watch a sport, but isn't always supporting a team.
