Breakaway position is played on the side of a scrum. The modern name of the position is called flanker. the player pushes in beside the locks adding weight to the scrum but also being a "loose forward " enables them to break away from the scrummage and follow the ball ( or play ) more easily than the " tight head forwards ". If you are fit and agile it is a truly great position to play in as you can slip into the back line as required.
