It is common for pregnant women irrespective of their age, to be offered the "Triple Test" to assess the chance of having a baby with Down syndrome. A positive triple screen test is a maternal blood screening test that looks for three specific substance- Alphafetoprotein, Human chorionic gonadotrophin and Estriol. These test do not diagnose the disease and only indicate that further testing should be done . It is performed between 11-14 weeks of pregnancy.
