actually In the past, crude balls made of materials such as inflated pig bladders were used. Modern balls are designed by teams of engineers to exacting specifications. Various leagues and games use different balls.

∙ 11y agoGenuine top grain leather like the Spalding NBA Official Game Ball or composite leather used in the Wilson Solution NCAA Official Game Ball or Wilson Evolution Basketball. There are other manufacturers but for leather just the two types.

∙ 15y agoToday's baseballs are made of cowhide. Until 1974, baseballs were made of horsehide. MLB made the change due to a shortage of horsehide. Baseball's are made of cool stuff that you eat.
