An American football field, including the end zones, is 120 yards long (109.7 meters) and 53.3 yards wide (48.7 meters). The field must conform to those measurements.

The rugby pitch, in comparison, can vary in size, but the playing area must not exceed 100 meters in depth and 70 meters in width, and the dimensions are expected to conform with these measurements as closely as possible. The try zones must not exceed 22 meters each in depth nor be shallower than 10 meters, "where practicable." So a rugby pitch generally spans from 130 to 144 meters long and 70 meters wide.
