depends on which marker you are talking about, for something like a spyder or stacked tube blow back there is usually a volumizer of some sort to hold air ready to be fired, for other markers there can be a LPR, for cockers there is a noid, ram and LPR, for the matrix series there was a on/off for a long time and now it is just a plug. just depends on what marker you are talking about

The barrel back is the piece that screws into the receiver on a 2 piece barrel. It is usually a specific size (or has changeable inserts with different sizes) that allow the player to change the bore (inside diameter) of the paintball barrel back, while having a more standard bore in the front (like .685). This is done to either perfectly fit the paintball (mid boring or perfect match) be bigger then the paintball (over-boring like .691) or slightly smaller then the paintball (underboring like .681) There are many different theories as to which is the best, but with changeable backs you can find out for yourself.
