An ace is when Team 1 serves the ball and Team 2 is unable to return it. It hits the floor without anyone on Team 2 touching it.

Incorrect.. The real answer is when one team serves over the net and it cannot be returned regardless of the receiving team touching it or not. :)

a volleyball ace is when a server serves and the ball either hits the floor on the other side, or someone 'shanks it', which means that they give a really bad pass that gives the serving team the point.

An ace is a successful serve that is not passed or returned by the opposing team. Therefore, the team with the serve gains a point.
