Jim Valvano was famous for coaching the North Carolina State men's Basketball team in the late 1970's and 1980's. His 1983 team would win the NCAA championship with an upset win over the more talented Houston Cougars. Valvano died of cancer but not before delivering a famous speech where he urged listeners to never give up.
