Bat rolling is an illegal way (Although it is clearly legalin the ISA sanction of softball) of breaking in a composite bat as if hitting 500 balls. The basic idea is when you roll the bat, it breaks in the composite material evenly and to it's full potential. This makes your bat "hot" right from the start and takes away the months of break in time, which is sometimes advantageous and for this fact people get their bats rolled.
