They are usually the people who aren't as good as hitting and are a little shorter. They go in and play back row for the taller hitters until they get to the front row. They alsoserve for people who aren't that good at serving :)

A libero is a defensive specialist who plays only back row. They can serve, and can enter the match at any time without using a substitution. They also wear a different colored jersey from the rest of the team, and usually return spikes and do a lot of digs. They can't spike, and can only set behind the ten-foot line. Hope this helps!
