A trackball is what they invented, or simply put an upside down mouse.
The three inventors used a bowling ball as the object in their trackball device. They created the trackball as part of a British Royal Navy radar system.
Well the first mouse was invented by Tom Cranston, Fred Longstaff and Kenyon Taylor, but the design was not patented.so Douglas Engelbart and Bill English at the Stanford Research Institute (now SRI International) invented the first mouse prototype in 1963.
Taylor Dearden's birth name is Taylor Dearden Cranston.
The trackball was invented by Tom Cranston, Fred Longstaff and Kenyon Taylor working on the Royal Canadian Navy's DATAR project in 1952. It used a standard Canadian five-pin bowling ball. It was not patented, as it was a secret military project.Douglas Engelbart at the Stanford Research Institute invented the first mouse prototype in 1963, with the assistance of his colleague Bill English. They christened the device the mouseas early models had a cord attached to the rear part of the device looking like a tail and generally resembling the common mouse. The cover was of wood and the wheels that rolled on the table were of metal (See the picture in the link below).
Edward Taylor
In the original design of trackball by Tom Cranston, Fred Long, and Kenton Taylor, a bowling ball was used as the object for the ball component. This choice provided a smooth, durable surface for the device's operation. The trackball concept allowed for more intuitive control in computer interfaces, paving the way for the development of modern pointing devices.
