The Green Bay Packers were founded on August 11, 1919 by former high-school football rivals Earl "Curly" Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun. Lambeau solicited funds for uniforms from his employer, the Indian Packing Company and the team was first known as the Indian Packers.
Team colors are red, black, and white. The home uniforms are red and black with white accents. The away uniforms are white and black with red accents.
One of the team founders worked for the Indian Packing Company (which was a meat packing facility). The company donated funds for uniforms and equipment, on the condition that the team be named for its sponsor. (see discussion)
