The New England Patriots play for New England.
State of Massachusetts.
Billy Sullivan started the team as the 8th and final franchise of the American Football League (AFL) in 1959. They were the "Boston Patriots." They became part of the AFC when the leagues merged in 1970. When the team moved their headquarters to Foxborough, MA (about 20 miles from Boston), they changed their name. Originally it was going to be the Bay State Patriots but the NFL suggested New England Patriots instead.
Probably Massachusetts, because they are playing in foxborough
They were known as the Boston Patriots from 1960-1970. They changed their name in February 1971 to the Bay State Patriots but changed it in March 1971 to New England Patriots.
