Pyrex bakeware, mixing bowls, measuring cups etc
Mixing bowls are used while cooking to add ingredients to so they can be combined. They also can be used as bowls to eat out of or to store stuff in.
One can purchase cheap Pyrex bowls online from retailers such as Amazon. Once on the page, type "Pyrex bowl" into the search field at the top of the page and press enter to bring up the bowls. It is also possible to find good deals on eBay.
Bowls intended for mixing ingredients. They are most commonly used for mixing batters, doughs, etc.
To protect Pyrex bowls from breaking always place hot bowls on a dry towel or potholder, never damp towels or metal trivets. Do not place Pyrex bowls directly on stove top burners or under broilers. Allow the oven to fully pre heat before placing dish in the oven. And finally, cover the bottom of the dish with liquid before cooking meat or vegetables.
Yes, Pyrex can be used in the microwave as well as conventional oven.
How large? Amazon, Overstock.com, Bed, Bath and Beyond all sell Pyrex and you may find what you need on their web site. Or you could Google Pyrex (made by Corning) for other retailers. Pyrex is a special tempered glass that can withstand a lot of heat, so it is used for cooking. Pyrex brand also makes measuring cups, etc out of glass and some of them are tempered and some are not. But, a mixing bowl like you are talking about does not need to withstand the heat of the oven or stovetop so any brand will be just as good as Pyrex for mixing in. Try E-bay. Also, type in Pyrex. I noticed Craig's list sells them too.
For the smaller prep bowls, I believe she uses the 10-piece set which can be purchased from Williams Sonoma or Crate and Barrel. However, I haven't been able to find the extra large glass mixing bowls she uses.
