It started out as a game played by Native Americans of Canada. The British then colonized Canada and adapted the game in the ways of using steel skate blades and other ways. Hockey then got transferred to America.

My personal favorite, and in my opinion the most bizarre hockey tradition belongs to the Detriot Red Wings and their fans. If you're a hockey fan, odds are you've either seen this or heard of it. As a salute to the Red Wings players, usually after a big game or a hat trick, for example, the fans will rain down octopus from the stands. The tradition began in 1952, when Detriot went 8-0 to win the championship. The supposed symbolizom lies in the 8 wins, 8 tentacles connection. It's very strange, but cool none-the-less.
