It's a WarningA yellow card is a warning. Once a player has been booked, he has to be extra careful for the rest of the game; if he gets another yellow card, this will result in a red card - and he will be sent off the pitch and his team will be at a disadvantage (with one fewer player).

In addition, a yellow card is added to your total tally of yellow cards for the season. If a player gets 5 yellow cards, he is suspended for a game.

The most common reasons for getting a yellow card:

  • Unsporting behavior of any type, e.g., a dangerous slide tackle.
  • Dissent (disagreeing with the referee's or linesman's decision).
  • Persistent infringement of rules, e.g. constantly tripping people.
  • Entering or leaving the field without permission.
  • Delaying the game, perhaps by refusing to stand the proper distance from a free kick, or not throwing in the ball for a long period of time.

The yellow card is a warning. The red card means that you are ejected from the game, and your team has to play short for the rest of the game, also in most completions a red card will also prevent you from participating in the next match.

The second yellow card in the same game will automatically give you a red card.

A red card is given for a severe breach of rules. This results in the player being dismissed from the game and usually a ban from the next match. A yellow is given for a moderate breach of rules and can be given to a player twice during a match. The first yellow acts as a warning while a second yellow card during the same match, results in an instant dismissal from the pitch and a ban from a subsequent game. If a player receives a yellow in one game and another yellow in the next game, this also results in a 1 match suspension. Rarely has a player been given a yellow card followed by a red as two yellow cards ensure the same outcome. However, there is room for human error as both cards are usually kept in the same pocket.

If you get two yellows in one match, you are sent off. If you get a red in a match, you are also sent off, and are likely to have a 1-2 match ban.

Is there a purple card in soccer?

You cant get blue cards. You can get red and yellow cards though. You get a yellow card for a foul or diving or a minor handball. If you get two yellow cards then you get a red card and get sent off. You get a straight red card for a bad foul or a goal saving handball or a goal saving foul. ____ There are blue cards in indoor soccer and beach soccer. Word Cup, European and English soccer don't use the blue card. I don't believe the MLS does either. The blue card is issued for minor violations and the player is generally sent off the field for a few minutes to serve a penalty.
