There is a terrific web page with a chart provided by the NCAA. It contains the number of athletes at various levels of education HS through post college and the number who become professional. The percentages are humbling for those parents and kids thinking they can become a pro. I use the chart to emphasize the importance of using sport to make great people who may become great athletes. http://www.ncaa.org/research/prob_of_competing/ Marshall L. Mintz, Psy.D.

The odds of being drafted into the major leagues varies by position. The odds of becoming a pitcher are less than 3 percent. A positional player's odds are less than 6 percent.
Only a few people will go on to play Major League Baseball. If you practice hard and make it into College Baseball your chances will be higher.
