Oriole Park at Camden Yards was the first of the new style of premier ballparks that became the standard in the mid-90's. The stadium is constructed within blocks of Babe Ruth's childhood home and the pub that Ruth's father owned and which Babe often frequented was approximately where center field is today. Another interesting element to the stadium is the inclusion of the 1898 B&O Railroad Warehouse within the design of the stadium. At 1,116 feet long but only 51 feet wide the 8 story warehouse is the longest brick building on the east coast. Eutaw Street, an integrated thoroughfare, lies between the warehouse and the field and is full of dozens of bronze plaque where players have hit home run balls. There is only one plaque that is on the side was of the warehouse and that belongs to Ken Griffey, Jr. who hit the building during batting practice for the All-Star Game. There have been many notable visitors to the stadium, including Pope John Paul II, multiple including Presidents Bill Clinton, and many celebrities such as Billy Bob Thorton, Chris Rock, Owen Wilson, as well as many movies and televison shows have been shot there including Dave, Major League 2, The West Wing, The Wire and Head of State. On the east side of the warehouse the first Civil War confrontation took place when Union troops and southern supporters collided. President Abraham Lincoln passed by Camden Station, the building now houses the Sports Legends museum, three times; on his way to Gettysburg, on his way back after giving the now famous address, and as he lie in state after his assassination. The stadium is owned by the Maryland Stadium Authority and ultimately the tax payers of the state of Maryland. There are a number of organizations within the stadium walls that deal with its day to day function such as security, food services, cleaning and janitorial, the Maryland Stadium Authority, and the Baltimore Orioles. These organizations mostly use golf carts to get around though one individual used a Segway for many years. Most of the offices are within the Warehouse but a few are actually inside the stadium itself. One office, behind home plate, even had a salt water fish tank for a few years!
