It has and always will be legal to dunk from the free throw line. No one has ever attempted to do so in a non NBA dunk contest, as the odds of doing so with about 7 people in the way is very unlikely. Most people get a head start, as well, and there is little chance of that happening in an NBA game.
Yes in the 1988 dunk contest he dunked it from the free throw line http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EfHnG-e-vE

A thow in is when the ball has been knocked out of court.Which ever team knocked it out the opposite team will take the throw in. Depending where the throw in is being taken depends on which player will be best for taking the throw in/
The longest dunk by Michael Jordan was at the FOUL LINE!!!!!
The first ever dunk contest was held in 1976 in Denver and the first NBA dunk contest was held in Denver in 1984.
BJ did dunk in a game. I have it on video. It was an easy dunk for BJ who was all alone after a steal. I believe it was against Utah.
