Cricket was so popular in Canada during the time of Confederation (1867) that the first Prime Minister John A Macdonald anounced 'Cricket' as Canada's national sport. Later on it became less popular and was disregarded, in it's place we saw Baseball, Lacrosse and finally hockey take over. Moreover Cricket was never denounced as the national sport, only ignored.
