No, each team is free to trade with any of the other 31 teams in the NFL.
None of them. The AFC has 4 divisions of 4 teams each and the NFC has 4 divisions of 4 teams each.
4 teams in a division,16 teams in the NFC all by itself,16 teams in the AFC all by itself, and 32 teams all together.
2 NFL football teams, each a division champion of the AFC and the NFC, play against each other. It is the football championship game of each year.
This is best answered in opposition to your question i.e. How do teams qualify for the playoffs? The 8 division winners and 2 wild card teams from each conference. Wild card teams are determined by the best overall winning percentage from the remaining (non division winning) teams.
8 teams in each of the 2 conferences make the playoffs. Each conference has 3 divisions. Only the division winners are assured playoff spots. The other 5 spots in each conference go to the remaining teams with the best records. The final faceoff is the eastern conference champion against the western conference champion
The NFL has broken their 32 teams into two 16 team conferences, and each of the conferences into four 4 team divisions. Each team in a division plays the other three teams in the division twice. This is to promote a sense of rivalry between the teams in a division.
Only in MLB can the teams from the same division not play each other, and that's only in the first round of playoffs. In the NFL, I think it's called the Divisional round because in theory, only divisional champs will be remaining in the playoffs after Wildcard Weekend.
In its current structure, the NFL has 4 Wild Card (non-division winners) teams advance to the Playoffs each year, 2 from the NFC, and 2 from the AFC.
Eight. Two wild cards and the two lower ranking division champions in each conference.
