The dimensions of a Rugby union field should be as close as possible to 100metres x 70metres. Although, in the Laws of the Game, there is NO minimum width of a rugby union pitch, but there is a maximum width of 70metres. In theory, a rugby union pitch could be as little as 15metres wide!
Inside the playing area (in addition to the halfway line), there three lines in each half running parallel to the goal line; a line at 10metres from the halfway, a line at 22meters from the goal line and a line at 5metres from the goal line. There are also two lines parallel to each sideline; one line at 5metres and one line at 15metres. The in-goal area must be at least 2m and not more than 22m.
Additionally, other than the match officials and players, no-one should be within 2metres of the pitch (for safety) but the 'field of play' (normally the continuous grass area) has no maximum.
