Marlin Briscoe of the Denver Broncos was pro football's first black starting quarterback in 1968. Six years later, Joe Gilliam Jr. started 6 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers and led the team in passing that season. Doug Williams was the first black quarterback to start and win a superbowl. Other former great black quarterbacks include hall of famer Warren Moon who played in the CFL and in the NFL with the Housten Oilers and Minnesota Vikings, Randall Cunningham with the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings, and Steve McNair of the Housten Oilers and Tennesee Titans. Sean King led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the NFC Championship game against the St. Louis Rams. Quincy Carter started for the Dallas Cowboys before Tony Romo. Vince Evans played for the Chicago Bears before Jim McMahon. Kordell Stewart played for the Pittsburgh Steelers before starting for the Chicago Bears. Aaron Brooksplayed for New Orleans. Charlie Batch played for Detroit, as did Rodney Peete, backed up by high number one draft pick Andre Ware. Jeff Blake made the pro bowl while playing for Cincinnati and later played for New Orleans, and Akili Smith played briefly for Cincinnati. Michael Vick was the first quarterback to rush for 1000 yards, and he is still under contract with Atlanta. Current greats include pro bowler Daunte Culpepper, Philadelphia's Donovan McNabb, and Tennessee's Vince Young. Tarvaris Jackson is playing behing Gus Frerotte in Minnesota, David Garrard starts for Jacksonville, Jason Campbell is playing exceptional football in Washington, and JaMarcus Russell is being groomed in Oakland. No. As of August 2013, the Green Bay Packers have not had a starting quarterback that has been African American.
