There are 30 teams in Major League Baseball in 2009; 16 teams in the National League, and 14 Teams in the American League. Each league is divided into three divisions, East, Central, and West. Below is the list of teams in each League.

Football teams do not have farm teams. Minor League or farm teams are associated with Major League Baseball.
On 1876 February 2, a group of professional baseball teams decided to organize themselves a league, in order to have regular schedules for games. Because they wanted to emphasize that they were not just from one region of the U.S., they called themselves the "National League." The name has stuck since.

There are 2 Major League Baseball teams that have Los Angeles as part of their team name but only the Los Angeles Dodgers (which is a National League team) actually plays in Los Angeles, California whereas theother team with the city name, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (who are an American League team) actually play in Anaheim, California.

In 1901 8 teams of the American League, joined the National League to form Major League Baseball. The Yankees franchise was part of the origianl 8 teams of the American League but at the time they were the Baltimore Orioles. In 1903 the team was moved to New York, and named the Highlanders. The New York Highlanders changed the name to Yankees in 1913.

Alpine skiing, archery, arena football and auto racing are sports. The Arizona Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons are teams in the National Football League. The Anaheim Ducks and Atlanta Thrashers are teams in the National Hockey League.
Seattle Mariners is the only Major League team from the Pacific Northwest, however there are several minor league teams, college teams, etc. in that area.
