The last English captain to win back the ashes series was a Mr Small Penie XD
1986-87 was the last time England beat Australia in an Ashes series. The margin was 3-1 in the five test series However, England were the holders of the Ashes before that series, and therefore retained the Ashes, rather than won them. The last time England actually won the Ashes was in England in 1985 - again a 3-1 series victory

No the last ever ever episode of ashes to ashes is still on iplayer though.
No Ashes was played in 2008. The last Ashes was played in 2009 which was born by England.
Australia They have won 31 out of 65 series and England 29! Terrible. There has also been 5 draws.
England won the last Ashes in the year 2010-2011.
in 2009,england won the match
No he won in neither! Until last month, the last time England had won the Ashes in Australia was 1986/87, and we didn't win them again until 2005. Michael Atherton's last Ashes series was in England in 2001, where Australia won the series 4-1.
well....ricky ponting has made a few preety crazy decisions in the ashes series so far...if i had to choose who would be the Australian captain next year i would choose Michael clark because he is in preety good form and ricky ponting hasn't been the best of captains in the last 6 months........ but its not my decision NICK....DAGANGSTA Ye i guess so but how do you know that Michael Clark won't stuff up but it's really not any of us decision
It's the last series because we've now learn't why or what the world Gene Hunt inhabits is all about. It's left open, so in theory another series could be made, but the mystery that created Life on Mars and A2A has gone. So it might just turn into a retro cop show.
An academic question now, but the tradition is that if a series is a tie then the current holder retains the Ashes, so Australia would have only needed to draw the Oval game in order to retain the Ashes.
