Several colleges and universities in Kentucky have Baseball teams including the U of K. There is also professional baseball in Louisville, class AAA, but no major league team. The closed MLB team would be the Cincinnati Reds.

The Louisville Grays were charter members of the National League, playing in the NL in 1876 and 1877. The Grays went out of business after the 1877 season when allegations of gambling and throwing games surfaced. A subsequent investigation found that three of their players had been paid to throw games.

The Louisville Colonels played between 1882-1899 in the American Association and the National League. The Colonels were contracted, with three other teams, by the National League after the 1899 season and had several future Hall of Famers that played for them including Honus Wagner, Rube Waddell, and Fred Clarke.

As of the 2009-2010 NBA season, Louisville does not have an NBA team. Louisville is one of the top cities to get an NBA team should an expansion team or another team move.

There is a minor league team in Louisville called the Bats that plays in the International League (AAA) and is affiliated with the Cincinnati Reds.
