Answer
The Chinese invented a game called Cuju which has similarities to football. However, despite FIFA's inexplicable attempts to perpetuate the myth Cuju was the forerunner of soccer the game has no historical connection with American football, Association football (soccer), Rugby football, Australian Rules football or any of the family of football games which evolved from ball games first played in medieval Europe. The most likely ancestor of these foot ball games is Episkyros first played by the Ancient Greeks 2000 BC which was adapted to create a ball game called Harpastum played by the Romans from 200 BC.
