Of 'course they do. Just like a Baseball catcher they have to be protected from the runners, ball, and the bat. If they don't wear equipment then they will get really hurt. It is a rule for them to wear them. It's safe.

Wear the correct safety equipment. This should include body pads, a face mask and a helmet. The catcher's mitt is a different kind of glove, with more padding. You'll need it as balls come flying at you. lol.

You should look for good adjustable straps especially on the chest protector. You want the top part of you chest protector to reach the base of your neck. Another thing to look for is a comfortable helmet that you can see out of. The bars on the helmet should not cover your view of the ball. The shin guards should cover just to the top of your knee. (When you put shin guards on the buckles go on the outside)

It's definitely a personal preference. I don't wear one, and none of my other friends do because you have the mask to protect your mouth. The odds of you getting hit in the mouth are pretty slim.

Mouth guards are for concussions not mouth injuries.

Depends on what part is inured.
