The answer to this question is based purely on ones opinion. As it stands now though, the question can not be fairly answered. Matt Stafford has had only one season to show his worth, that being 2009. In 2010 he was injured and could not play but one game. If he can stay healthy and the Lions continue to improve as a team then he will show his true worth.

Another quarterback that comes to mind as being seen as over rated early in his career is Payton Manning of the Colts. He remained healthy and could become as good as he is. It remains to be seen if Stafford can do the same.

He's definitely not the best QB right now in the NFL, but he would rank as one of the top 4 quarterbacks in the league at this moment. The arm strength is incredible on this young man (it could be better if he stepped into his throws). The accuracy improved greatly in the 11'-12' season as he led the Detroit Lions to their first NFL playoff appearance since 99'. He has had a history of injury problems that plagued the second half of the 09' season and the 10' season.
