LeBron James is not just good: he is considered to be the best to ever play the game of basketball by some analysts and scouts. While most do not agree with that, there is not one expert who has him outside of the top 3 basketball players in the history of the game, in company with Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. LeBron has brought to the NBA something that has never been seen before: an elite combination of strength, size, and speed. With the strength of what some analysts claim to feel like a "600 pound steam-roller coming right at you," the speed to star on a great track team, and the size to bully anyone on the court, LeBron was seen as the heir, if not better, to Michael Jordan.
As a child, LeBron was given a miniature basketball hoop by his mother, which is where his love of the game began. He played constantly on the hoop and showed phenomenal skills at such a young age. While playing constantly over the summers and playing other top players in the nation on AAU teams, LeBron made a huge name for himself even before high school.
During high school, LeBron became a household name across the nation. Numerous NBA players, including Shaquille O'Neal, heard about this hyped teen and came to witness the kid themselves. It was during his Junior season, where he became the first player ever to receive the Gatorade National Player of the Year as a junior, that he earned the nickname "King James." He kept the same title as a senior, where he averaged 31.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 3.4 steals for the St. Vincent-St. Mary Irish.
The 2003 NBA Draft was unanimously known as the "LeBron James" draft, as a few teams were questioned about purposely losing games to have better odds to draft him. There were no questions that he would be the #1 overall pick. The Cleveland Cavaliers were the lucky ones to select him, and in his first NBA game, he recorded 25 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds,4 steals, and shot 60% from the floor against the Sacramento Kings, a top level team.
Let's run through his career accomplishments as of the 2009-2010 season, his seventh season in the NBA:
These are his accomplishments only after 7 seasons in the NBA. Only a select few players have earned as many accomplishments in their entire career, and LeBron James has just entered his prime.
At this stage of his career, he is unanimously in the top 3 NBA players to ever play the game, along with Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.
