George Blanda (1927-2010), a quarterback and kicker for the Oakland Raiders, was 48, almost 49 years old when he retired in 1976. He still holds the record for most extra points kicked (943).

Just a year younger (47) at retirement was Hall of Fame placekicker Morten Andersen (born 1960) , aka The Great Dane. Andersen holds the records for the most games played in the NFL (382), most field goals made (565), and most points scored (2544).

* As of 2017, kicker Adam Vinatieri (born 1972) could but likely will not surpass both of these players in longevity, should he remain in the NFL until the end of the 2021-2022 season (age 49). He holds the NFL records for most field goals in overtime, most field goals in Super Bowls, and most field goals/ most points scored in the postseason.
