It all started somewhere around 1950. It plays every 4 years. So, 1950, 1954 live from Switzerland, 1958, 1962, 1966, 1972, 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2006 live from Korea, Japan, 2010 live from South Africa, and will soon play in the 2014 one, which will be live from Brazil.
