While the game of hockey was "invented" or "organized" maybe twenty or more years earlier, the National Hockey League was organized in 1917 and played its first season in 1917-18 with four teams. That would make the NHL about 92 years old.

There's no age limit, if you can't play physically anymore. I've seen Patrick Roy play until he was like 43. Usually the quit last 30s, early 40s cause the body can't take the pain.
