In 2004-05 was the NHL Lockout; the whole season was canceled. From 1893-1911 they only played one game (winner take all) each year. 1912 they tried two games, in 1913 went back to one, then in 1914 went to the best out of 3. 1927 started the best of 5 series and finally in 1939 started the best of 7.
