Usually two are present. one is the 'up' official and one is the 'down' Referee. The 'up' official makes calls dealing with player contact with the ball and can over rule any call.
The 'down' Ref watches the net for any foot or net violations.

The high school and college volleyball season is played in the fall. It usually starts around August and ends between October and November. However most teams have a preseason workout during the spring and summer. Club volleyball starts in December and can end anywhere between March and July.
Guys are allowed to play Vlleyball in high-school, It depends on your education institution if they do Extra Curricular sport such as Volleyball. Volleyball may not be available to you to participate in school.
