How many players do you need to play organized football?

To play a full modern football game, you should probably have at least 24 players: 11 for offense, 11 for defense, a punter, and a kicker. However, you could play with just 11 people if every person played every down, or you could have more than 24 if you want backups. (*note* These numbers are for one team only and should be doubled if you want to organize the opponent's team, too.)
