Edward "Butch" Songin was the very first quarterback in Patriots history. A 1950 draft choice by the Cleveland Browns, Songin never played pro football until he was selected by the Boston Patriots in their inaugural season of 1960. He played for the Patriots for the 1960 and 1961 seasons, throwing 36 touchdowns and 24 interceptions.
