Players from many countries participate in the World Series such as Hideki Matsui from Japan, Bobby Abreu from Venezuela, Fernando Valenzuela from Mexico, David Ortiz from Dominican Republic (now a US citizen), Orlando Hernandez from Cuba, Chien-Ming Wang from Taiwan, Mariano Rivera from Panama, Bert Blyleven from Netherlands, and Bobby Thomson (Shot heard around the world) was heard in Scotland.
