The Host Team and the visiting team each provides 12 balls per game. The balls are inspected before the game to ensure that they meet specifications. Of course each team also has many "non-game" practice balls on hand.

I heard during last night's Super Bowl that they had 140 footballs on hand for the game, but some believe it is 120. For use in the game, the Host Team and the visiting team each provides 12 balls per game. The balls are inspected before the game to ensure that they meet specifications. Of course each team also has many "non-game" practice balls on hand.

Two hours and 15 minutes prior to kickoff, both teams will be required to bring 24 footballs (12 primary and 12 back-up) to the Officials' Locker Room for inspection. Two Game Officials, designated by the Referee, will conduct the inspection and record the PSI measurement of each football.
